The CFL Charitable Trust has received some exciting updates from two people who are currently receiving sponsorship to pursue and progress in their chosen fields.

Torin Harte received funding this year to set off on a two-year Master of Economics degree at Montash University in Melbourne. After completing his first semester, Torin has successfully secured all High Distinctions (the tope grade available at his institution) in all his classes.

“I wanted to express my thanks again to the CFL Trust for your support, which has gone a long way in supporting my academic journey thus far.”

The Trustees also heard from Dr Sofia Arkhipkina about her second and final year of her Master of Business Administration in Health (MBA Health) degree at the University College London.

A particular highlight from last year for Sofia was a six-month consultancy project she undertook with Chilean hospital ‘ACHS’ to explore how telemedicine platforms could improve patient outcomes.

Sofia had chosen Chile for her course’s international module, as the Falklands has a long-standing relationship with Chile for the provision of specialist overseas medical care and she was excited to visit some of the partnering hospitals in Santiago.

Sofia went to Clínica Alemana, a leading hospital serving both local populations and Falkland Islanders, where she saw how digital innovation was successfully being used to overcome the challenges of health inequity posed by Chile’s geographically dispersed population.

“Looking ahead to the new academic year, I am looking forward to continuing to raise the profile of the Falkland Islands with such an international cohort of aspiring healthcare leaders and global healthcare experts. I remain committed to making healthcare safer, more sustainable, and accessible for all patients.”
